About BCPP
The Bulindi Chimpanzee & Community Project (BCCP) is a grassroots non-profit working to conserve endangered chimpanzees in Uganda’s Budongo–Bugoma corridor. These chimpanzees, which number several hundred, live side-by-side with people in a fragmented forest landscape where they face numerous threats to their survival. BCPP has worked to conserve this chimpanzee population and the habitat that supports its existence.
The program monitors six chimpanzee communities in the fragmented forest corridor around Bulindi. Trained local monitors observe the chimpanzees daily, collecting critical data on their health and safety. They also engage with local communities to reduce conflict and monitor the chimp population.

School Child Sponsorship
Since 2015, BCCP has sponsored school fees for children whose families own private forest land they commit to conserving. This successful program now supports 71 families and 278 acres of crucial chimpanzee habitat. It has been a legacy project nearly since the inception of Friends of Chimpanzees (FoC).
Education and Community Outreach
The educational team holds community meetings to reduce chimpanzee-human conflict, teaching locals ways to safely coexist with chimpanzees. They also visit schools to educate children on staying safe around wildlife, fostering early awareness and respect for these animals.
